Getting Connected

Connections Policy Overview

Connections to the NI Gas Transmission Network are governed by the relevant TSO policies, depending on where the connection is required. For connections to the Mutual Energy Limited assets (PTL, BGTL & WTL) the PTL Connection Policy below outlines the connection requirements, whilst the GNI (UK) Connection Policy covers connections to the GNI (UK) assets in NI. These policies consider commercial terms that are relevant to the connection of loads to any part of the Northern Ireland Gas Transmission system. Technical design of connections are not considered in this section – unless otherwise requested by the customer.

Any party who has an enquiry about connecting to the NI Gas Transmission network should contact either PTL or GNI (UK) directly. GMO NI can assist any party with identifying the relevant network owner.

Objectives of the Connections Policy

  • Being clear, transparent and eliminating any potential customer confusion over the applicable charges.

  • Being cost effective to implement.

  • Applying similarly to both transmission and distribution connections for the same customer type.

  • Encouraging the connection of new customer load where it is efficient.
