NI Network Code

The governing framework for gas transportation across Northern Ireland’s transmission network.

NI Network Transmission Code

Shippers transporting gas through the NI Transmission System must accede to the NI Network Gas Transmission Code (the Code), approved by the Northern Ireland Authority for Utility Regulation (NIAUR).

The Code sets out the framework for how the system operates, including the roles and obligations of Shippers and Transmission System Operators (TSOs). It covers key processes such as capacity booking, nominations, balancing, allocation, metering, and settlement.

It provides a transparent and consistent basis for accessing and using the NI Transmission System.

Code Modifications

The Code is maintained and updated periodically to reflect regulatory, market, and operational changes.

Under their Gas Conveyance Licences, TSOs are required to work jointly with other high-pressure Gas Conveyance Licensees to establish and maintain a process for modifying the Code.

This process enables Shippers and other stakeholders to raise modification proposals. Proposals are subject to industry consultation and must be approved by NIAUR prior to implementation.

Full details of the modification process are set out in the Code Modification Rules.
